By creating child friendly spaces, apart from the social worker and teacher networks, UNICEF also support tents, and psychosocial kits complete with education toys, books and games. Nine children centres have already been established in Pariaman and three other districts affected by the quake. In the child-friendly spaces, children will be able to join together in group activities such as playing games, singing, dancing and painting. This will help them to bond with each other, and to feel that they are safe and not alone. Such activities will also help the trained workers identify those children showing signs of more serious trauma, so that they can be provided with more specific forms of support.
Besides children centres, to rebuild children’s lives back to normalcy, UNICEF urged children to go back to school a week after the earthquake by providing school-in-box and school tents.
